With many electronic kitchen appliances sold in a shining white colour, we can often notice a problem. Over time, the white can become dull, and gives the whole kitchen a jaded appearance. Your fridge, freezer and radiator can become yellower and yellower looking. This can have multiple causes -children with sticky fingers, magnets, the accumulation of cooking grease or even the nicotine left from smoking. Here are a few tips to shine them up and bring them back to their whiteness of old.
1) Regular cleaning
Keep your appliances clean with a sponge soaked in washing up liquid, to which you add a small drop of white vinegar. Done regularly, this cleaning tip will mean you don’t end up with yellow, dull appliances.
2) White vinegar for a yellowed appliance
Soak a sponge in white vinegar and scrub your appliance with the soft side of the sponge. Leave it to work for around 20 minutes before rinsing it off with hot water. Next, wipe it down with a clean dry cloth.
3) Bleach and baking soda for a very yellow appliance
Make a mixture containing a cup of bleach with a half cup of baking soda, and use 5 cups of hot water to dilute it all. Wearing gloves to protect your hands, scrub the appliance with a sponge soaked in this mixture, and leave it to work for around 15 minutes. Rinse it with hot soapy water and then with clear water, and dry it.
4) High concentration oxygenated water (60° minimum)
Certain vendors of second hand kitchen appliances use oxygenated water to shine up their wares whiter than white. But it is only in the pharmacy that you will find oxygenated water concentrated enough to do the trick. Of course, don’t forget to wear gloves to protect your hands!
